Rolfing was developed by Dr. Ida Rolf in the 1950s. Dr. Rolf completed her PhD in Biochemistry from Columbia University in 1920 and continued to study biochemistry thereafter. Blending her knowledge of hatha yoga, osteopathy, chiropractic, and homeopathy, she developed the Rolfing technique. Rolfing was designed with the goal of realigning the body in relation to gravity to create an overall sense of wellbeing. This is achieved by manipulating the myofascial tissue and providing movement education.
To pass on her work, Dr. Ida Rolf designed the Rolfing 10-Series, also known as the 'recipe'. This is a series of sessions where we address the superficial and deep layers of the fascia in a systematic order to optimize structure and function. Each session focuses on a particular goal and area of the body.
We will begin by doing an evaluation. During this evaluation, we will observe your walking pattern, weight distribution, joint mobility, and structure. This will allow you to check in with how you are feeling in your body.
Next we will do a 50-60 minute session on the table. We may have you switch positions or engage in movements to help access the tissue and deepen the results of the session. Rolfing is not a passive modality. We like to engage our clients and keep them present in the session to maximize results.
At the end of the session, we will re-evaluate walking patterns and structure. Bringing awareness to the new patterns we've created will help you incorporate them in your daily life.
